My name is Kathy Rose, and I work for the University of Kentucky Campus Recreation Department. I’ve worked in Campus Recreation for longer than most current college students have been alive, first as the Club Sports Director, and now as the Facilities Director for my department.
Several changes within higher education in the past 10 years have reignited my passion for my profession. The first was the emphasis on creating intentional learning opportunities for students outside the academic classroom. The second was the explosion of technology use, social media, and mobile devices that have transformed the way information is communicated and processed. Both of these trends have captivated my interest and have made showing up for work every day a new and exciting adventure.
When I’m not at work, I enjoy being outdoors as much as possible. I bicycle commute to work (most days), and enjoy backpacking, canoeing, kayaking, and outdoor photography. I have taken extended backpacking trips throughout Utah and Wyoming, and have braved mosquitoes on 2-week trips in Minnesota’s Boundary Waters Canoe Area. But I still consider Lexington, KY a great place to call home. Besides, where else can you live when you bleed blue? Go Cats!
